MEMORIES OF THE DOCKS

Memories of the docks

A new project to capture and celebrate the stories of the people who worked on the Port of Grimsby, in particular those who worked in the buildings which now form the Kasbah Conservation Area.

These are the stories of those who worked in or visited the buildings here, including the banks, post office, clog makers, shops, trawler-makers & boat builders, cafés, sail lofts, fabricators, fish merchants and so on, rather than the already well-known stories of trawlermen and those who worked out at sea.

Tales from the docks

Did you used to work ‘down dock’?

Do you have memories of visiting the docks as a child?
Have family members passed on their memories to you of their time on the docks?

As part of our project to capture and collect people’s memories of Grimsby docks, we are hoping to build a ‘word cloud’ which will show words that people have submitted to the project. We will gather these words together in a picture which will show users of the website what words people link most to their memories and experiences of the docks.

If you would like to submit a word or words to the project, please email memories@thekasbah.co.uk

The Kasbah Memories project is funded and supported by the following organisations.
